If you consult Wikipedia the following information is but a crumb of what is available.  It also lists many interesting buildings in the village and locality.  
“Shinrone (Suí an Róin, meaning "seat of the seal") is a village in County Offaly, Ireland.  It lies at the junction of the R491 regional road between Cloughjordan and Roscrea where it is joined by the R492.  According to the 2006 census the population is 591 persons.
American President Barack Obama's earliest known relative, Joseph Kearney, whose family subsequently moved to Moneygall and who would become the President's 7th great-grandfather, was from Shinrone where the Kearney family lived and died for four generations.  Research from Trinity College shows this to be the President's earliest known relative.”
(many members of the Kearney family are buried in the local cemetery).
The translation of the name is incorrect – yes the name for a seal in Irish is Rón, but as this town was established inland and its original inhabitants probably never saw the sea, let alone a seal, one has to look elsewhere for a more realistic translation.  The Irish word Rón can also be translated as a hermit.  So this explanation is more meaningful – the Seat of the Hermit.  Tradition holds that St Patrick visited the locality and his unfortunate chariot-driver Ódhrán, was killed and buried in the area.
